Terms of Service
Please read these terms carefully before installing or using Recall. By installing the extension or using the service, you agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, do not install or use Recall.
1. About Recall
Recall is a browser extension and Progressive Web App that uses AI to create a searchable memory of your browsing history. It stores all data locally on your device. These Terms of Service govern your use of Recall, including the Chrome extension, the desktop offline reader, and the mobile Progressive Web App (together, "the Service").
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to use Recall. By using the Service, you confirm that you are 18 or older. If you are under 18, you must not install or use Recall.
3. Free trial
Recall is free to try for 7 days and requires no account — you use the Service by installing the Chrome extension. During the free trial you may save up to 500 pages and use highlight capture, the offline reader, and unencrypted vault export. The free trial does not include AI summaries, automatic categorisation, or encrypted exports.
The free trial does not require a payment card and does not auto-renew or auto-charge. After 7 days, a Recall Pro licence is required to continue saving new pages; pages you have already saved remain viewable and exportable.
AI summarisation (a Pro feature) additionally requires your own Claude API key from Anthropic. Your use of the Claude API is governed by Anthropic's terms of service at anthropic.com/legal/terms. You are responsible for all costs associated with your Claude API usage.
4. Recall Pro
Recall Pro is a paid subscription available at US$5 per month (or as otherwise priced on the website at the time of purchase). A Pro licence unlocks AI summaries, automatic categorisation, encrypted vault exports, and an increased capacity of up to 5,000 saved pages. After you subscribe you receive a licence key by email; Pro is activated by entering that key in the extension's settings, and the extension periodically verifies the key with our payment provider to confirm the subscription is active.
- Billing & seller of record: Subscriptions are sold and billed monthly in advance by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as our Merchant of Record (the seller of record and reseller of the Service) and handles payment and applicable taxes.
- Cancellation: You may cancel at any time via the Lemon Squeezy customer portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. No refund is provided for partial months. After cancellation, Pro features stop working once the subscription period ends (the extension may continue to work offline for a short grace period until it can next verify the licence).
- Activation limit: A single licence may be activated on a limited number of devices. You can remove a licence from a device in the extension's settings to free an activation.
- Price changes: We may change the price of Recall Pro with 30 days' written notice. If you do not wish to continue at the new price, you may cancel before the change takes effect.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Recall to:
- Violate any applicable law or regulation
- Process the personal data of others without their knowledge or consent (Recall is intended for use on your own browsing activity only)
- Circumvent, disable, or interfere with security features of the Service
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the Service
- Use the Service in any way that could damage, overburden, or impair its operation
- Resell, sublicense, or redistribute the Service or any part of it without our written permission
Recall is a personal productivity tool. It is designed for use on your own device to record your own browsing. Using it to monitor another person's browsing without their knowledge is a misuse of the Service and may be illegal under UK law.
6. Your data and privacy
Your use of Recall involves the processing of personal data. Our Privacy Policy (available at recall-pro.net/privacy) explains in detail how we handle your data, your rights, and how to exercise them. The Privacy Policy is incorporated into these Terms by reference.
Because Recall stores data locally on your device, you are responsible for the security of your device and any exported vault files. We cannot recover data lost due to device failure, accidental deletion, or uninstallation of the extension.
7. Intellectual property
Recall and all associated software, designs, and documentation are owned by us and protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Service for your own personal, non-commercial purposes.
You retain all rights to the content of your vault — the summaries, highlights, and page data saved by Recall. We claim no ownership over the content of your browsing history.
8. Third-party services
Recall integrates with the following third-party services. Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms:
- Anthropic Claude API: anthropic.com/legal/terms — used for AI summarisation when you provide an API key
- Lemon Squeezy: lemonsqueezy.com/terms — Merchant of Record for Recall Pro; handles checkout, billing, tax, and licence-key issuance/validation
- Google Chrome: google.com/intl/en/chrome/privacy — the browser platform the extension runs on
We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or practices of any third-party service.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free from viruses or other harmful components.
AI-generated summaries and tags are produced automatically and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading. You should not rely on them for any purpose requiring accuracy — they are memory aids only.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by English law, Recall shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, arising from your use of the Service.
Our total liability to you for any claim arising from or related to the Service shall not exceed the total amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or £50, whichever is greater.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under English law.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Recall and its officers, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from your violation of these Terms or your misuse of the Service.
12. Termination
You may stop using Recall at any time by uninstalling the extension. We may suspend or terminate your access to Recall Pro if you breach these Terms, without refund of prepaid fees.
On termination, your local vault data remains on your device. We have no ability to remotely delete your local data.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the effective date and displaying a notice in the extension or on our website. Continued use of Recall after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
If you are a consumer based in the UK, you also have the benefit of any mandatory provisions of the law of the country in which you are resident, which cannot be overridden by contract.
Before bringing any formal dispute, we encourage you to contact us at hello@recall-pro.net to attempt to resolve the matter informally. We will respond within 14 days.
